Periodontal Flap Surgery---For a Painless Smile!!!!

Flap surgery  is the loosening of the gum from bone to expose and clean underlying tooth structures. Periodontal flap surgery Flap surgery is done to treat the periodontaldisease which may affect our overall health.

The bacteria in our mouth, along with mucus and other particles, constantly form a sticky, colorless plaque on teeth. Plaque that is not removed by Brushing and flossing, can harden and form calculus and may results in inflammation of the gums leading to gingivitis if it is not properly cleaned with the help of a dentist. Inflammation causes a pocket to develop between the gums and the teeth, which keeps on filling with plaque and tartar and finally  causes destruction of the tissues and bone surrounding the tooth, thus loosening the tooth. Eventually it leads to loss of teeth

Common symptoms to identify inflammation of gums are:

• Bad Breadth
• Swollen gums
• Bright Red or red-purple gums
• Bleeding gums
• Loose teeth

Flapsurgery Procedure

The area to be treated is injected with local anesthesia before the procedure starts. The gums are then separated from the tooth to clean the root of the teeth filled with tartar and also repair the bone, if needed. During the procedure, the entire area is carefully cleaned and all tarter and infected granulation tissue are removed and the bone is examined.  The gum flaps are then sutured back into place and covered with gauze to stop bleeding. A few days to recover from a flap procedure and a few days after the procedure, your dentist will remove the stitches.
The entire flap procedure requires 1 to 3 hours to perform with only two quadrants of the mouth being addressed in a single visit. You must keep your mouth as clean as possible while the surgical site is healing.

The objectives of periodontal flap surgery are to:
----Regenerate periodontal tissues and their (re)-attachment to the teeth.
·         ----Eliminate or reduce pockets.
·         ----Create more normal periodontal form, function, and aesthetics;

If you are unhappy with the appearance of your teeth, then this can be greatly improved by a combination of periodontal procedures by experienced dentist.Compared to other countries across the world, periodontal flap surgery cost in India is very low.In India, periodontal flap surgery is best done at Madurai, under the guidance of Dr. R Rajarajan

World No Tobacco Day 2012--Quit Smoke Before It Kills You!!

Oral health refers to the health of your teeth and your mouth. Maintaining good oral health includes keeping your teeth free from cavities and keeping your gums free from disease. The concept of the oral health covers a wide range of topics and ideally you should be well informed about all of these to aid your dental hygiene as well as your general health.Oral Health is closely associated with our whole life.

Smoking products contain numerous poisonous chemicals such as carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, tar and nicotine. When you light a cigarette, these poisons start burning, which makes them more dangerous. The smoke passes through the smoker’s mouth, and leaves behind a sticky residue on their teeth. In fact, just one puff is enough to deposit stains on your teeth.

Smoking is hazardous to health.Smoking causes many problems to mouth. Most of us are aware of this fact, but no one is bothered about the dental problems.Smoking causes a staining on the teeth due to the nicotine and tar content. It can make the teeth yellow in a very short time, and heavy smokers often complain that their teeth are almost brown after years of smoking.

Smoking may also results in gum disease.Patients who smoke are more likely to produce bacterial plaque, which leads to gum disease. The gums are affected because smoking causes a lack of oxygen in the bloodstream, so the infected gums fail to heal. Gum disease still remains the most common cause of tooth loss in adults.

Tobacco use may greatly increases the risk for oral cancer, a disease that progresses rapidly and can be deadly if not diagnosed and treated early. The incidence of oral cancer ranges from one to 10 cases per 100 000 people in most countries. The prevalence of oral cancer is relatively higher in men, in older people, and among people of low education and low income. Tobacco and alcohol are major causal factors.

If you want to be a world free from hazardous diseased death, please response to this "world no tobacco day--2012" by avoiding the use of tobacco.

Affordable Dental Implants India

Dentalimplants are an artificial tooth root replacement usually made of titanium, used in dentistry to support restorations that resemble a tooth or group of teeth. It is most effective and reliable form of replacing the missing teeth.

Dentalimplant surgery is done the correct the problems like:
  • Have missing teeth
  • Have a jawbone that reached full growth
  • Have adequate bone to secure the implants
  • Have healthy oral tissues
  • Don't have health conditions that will affect bone healing
  • Are unable or unwilling to wear dentures
  • Want to improve your speech
A typical implant consists of a titanium screw (resembling a tooth root) with a roughened surface. This surface is treated either by plasma spraying, etching or sandblasting to increase the integration potential of the implant.
It is typically performed as an outpatient under general anaesthesia by oral surgeon or periodontist. The implant screw can be self-tapping, and is screwed into place at a precise torque so as not to overload the surrounding bone.Once properly torqued into the bone, a cover screw is placed on the implant, then gum is sutured over the site and allowed to heal for several months for integration to occur between the titanium surface of the implant and jawbone.
After few months the implant is uncovered in another surgical procedure, usually under local anaesthetic by the restorative dentist, and a healing abutment and temporary crown is placed onto the implant. This encourages the gum to grow in the right shape to approximate a natural tooth's gums and allows assessment of the final aesthetics of the restored tooth. Once this has occurred a permanent crown will be fabricated and placed on the implant.

The main benefits of dental implants are:
  • It looks and feel like your own teeth
  • Restore your chewing ability
  • Strong and durable
  • Bye to ill fitting dentures
Dental implant procedure can be best done by Dr.R.Rajarajan of Deivam dental clinic,Madurai,a leading dental implant specialist in India.

Dental Orthodontics India

Orthodontics is that branch of dentistry which specializes in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of irregularities in the teeth especially of alignment and occlusion and jaws, including the use of braces.Orthodonticprocedures can focus on dental displacement only, or can deal with the control and modification of facial growth.

Orthodontics braces are the most common appliance used for orthodontic procedure.
Braces are used to move teeth into the ideal position and align how they bite together, known as occlusion. Malocclusion is used to describe the misalignment of teeth between the upper and lower dental arches, using the first molars as a reference point.
Some of the reasons for performing orthodontics are crowded teeth, impacted bite, protruded teeth, under bite, ectopic teeth, open bite, cross bite, missing bite, spaced teeth, deep bite and thumb sucking.

There are many kinds in orthodonticappliances :

Removable appliances - which are usually plastic plates that suits the roof of the mouth and clip on to some teeth; they can be taken out and cleaned.

Functional appliances - a pair of removable plastic braces that are joined together or are designed to interact together and clip on to the upper and lower teeth.

Fixed appliances - a non-removable brace that is fixed to each tooth with a metal or ceramic bracket or attachment.

Headgear - this is not an orthodontic device itself, but it is used with other appliances to add a certain type and direction of pressure.

Compared to other nations like US and UK the costof orthodontics is very cheap in India.

Metal Free Ceramic Crown Treatment India

A dental crown helps to protect the broken tooth. Crowns improve appearance, prevents further teeth decay, chipping, or cracking.

Ceramic crowns may be made of porcelain, resins, or dental ceramic materials.
They create a natural-looking appearance and are normally used on front teeth. The tooth-colored ceramic material is translucent, like the enamel of your natural teeth, and shade and size can be carefully compared to complement the rest of your smile. ceramic dental crowns are not as resilient as metal crowns and do not function as well on back teeth, which sustain a lot of pressure from biting and chewing.
The most apparent advantage is the complete, natural look it can restore to a smile (the life of this effect depends greatly upon the materials used to make the crown), as well as improved functionality. Though all ceramic are not meant for chewing tough or overly sticky foods, they can recover a patient's ability to chew.
The whole all ceramic crowns are the most preferred one.

Affordable Root Canal Treatment India

A root canal is a capillary, which runs from the base of the root of the tooth to the middle of the crown. The root canal carries the pulp (a network of blood and nerve cells), which brings the tooth to life.
Rootcanal treatment is the process by which a dentist treats the inner part of a tooth.A root canal is the space within the root of a tooth. It is part of a naturally occurring space within a tooth that consists of the pulp chamber, the main canal, and more intricate anatomical branches that may connect the root canals to each other or to the surface of the root. When the cavity extends beyond the Enamel and Dentin and progresses to the pulp, it gives rise to serious pain. In such a situation, before a filling can be done the infection has to be removed from the canals of the tooth. This treatment is called root canal treatment.
In India the root canal treatment cost starts around $50 which is very cheap compared to other countries like US and UK where the cost is around $450.

Cosmetic Dentistry India

Cosmeticdentistry procedures can make your smile more pleasing and a youthful appearance.Today's innovative cosmetic dentistry procedures include teeth whitening, filling gaps between the teeth and repairing broken or missing teeth.
Decayed teeth, broken, yellow pigment teeth or chipped may be repaired or have their appearance corrected using a procedure called composite bonding. A dental composite material similar to enamel and dentin is applied into the cavity or on the tooth, where it is then molded into shape, contoured and hardened with a high-intensity light. The result is a restoration that blends invisibly with the remainder of the surrounding tooth structure and the rest of your natural teeth to create a healthy, bright smile.
Dental veneers is the another process to rectify the problems regarding improving smile. Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size, or length.
Cosmetic Dentistry procedures includes dental inlays, Dental onlays, Dental crowns, Dental veneers, Dental Laser surgery, Laser Tooth Whitening and procedures such as air abrasion and composite bonding, all intended to enhance your existing teeth, replace a cracked or missing tooth, reshape a tooth, and otherwise improve both the function of your teeth as well as your smile.
